Singles Chart 04.09

Monday 4th September 2017

I started compiling the statistics for the Singles Charts three weeks ago. Already I can see a major change in the way the Charts move and evolve from when I started programming back in the early 90’s. It’s so much faster!

Streaming, downloading and social media has certainly changed the music landscape.

Last month we lost Jason Derulo “Swalla”, Julia Michaels “Issues”, Shawn Mendes “Treat You Better”… among others.

This week we gained a very cool track by Portugal. The Man “Feel It Still”. It’s been hanging around the outskirts of the ARIA Charts but after some pretty steady radio play has made the cut, debuting at #43.

See how catchy this track is….

Aussie girl, Jessica Mauboy “Fallin” has been on a steady high across both the ARIA and iTunes Charts right through last month and heading into this month. Martin Solveig “All Stars” has stayed in the Top 50 of the Triple J Most Played tracks all last month though this week sees him at #49 which means he’s on the way out.

The iTunes Charts certainly bring in some surprises by digging up some oldies or adding in some flavor of the month type tracks. Artists such as The Pretenders, Queen and Cat Stevens are back in the Charts along with Bonnie Tyler making a comeback.

Not forgetting Taylor Swift “Look What You Made Me Do” debuting the #1 spot on both the ARIA & iTunes charts knocking P!nk “What About Us” into second position on both Charts.
