Gregory J. Bennett aka ‘Fonkmaster’ is an award-winning innovator of funkafied dance grooves with pop sensibilities. He’s also known for producing hiphop, pop/rock and ambient/chillout soundscapes for recent interactive media projects. Among some of his most recent accomplishments, having a positive impact in this ever-changing entertainment industry has been his primary focus. One of Greg’s main goals is to establish a sustainable career in securing music-licensing and/or publishing deals.
Some of Gregory's instrumental tracks have been licensed to cable TV programming (most recently on VH-1, MTV, The Food Network, HGTV, BET, HBO and E!, just to name a few.), music-on-hold applications and Muzak. His music can also be heard on the soundtrack of the highly anticipated film entitled 'Cain and Abel' by Mercury Rising Films. In 2003, Gregory was named "One Of The Top20 Indie Composer/producers" at the Listen & Exchange Awards.
He started playing the drums at the early age of seven. Four years later, the family moved to New Orleans and he immediately became part of the various music communities. He joined the school band and jumped right into performing and gigging with local cover bands. Seven years later his band was given the opportunity to be the opening act for major recording artist, Chaka Khan.
As a performing musician from the late 70's to the early 90's and currently as a composer/producer, Gregory has taken everything from r&b to pop, from jazz to hiphop, from easy listening to orchestral music and melded all of these flavas into a delightful synthesis of sensuous, seductive and provocative gumbo. Some of my early influences included; Sly and the Family Stone, Parliament/Funkadelic, Kraftwerk, Earth Wind & Fire, Grover Washington, Billy Cobham, Herbie Hancock, The Funky Meters.
